Always consult with an academic advisor, and take PSYC 3190 - Ethical and Professional Foundations , in which course selection is thoroughly examined. The minimum requirements are presented below. Most students will be able to take additional elective psychology courses, if they wish.

Foundation Courses: 12

(Earning grade C or better in each)

Major Electives: 15

PSYC 3000-4000 courses. (Earning grade C or better) Restrictions: No more than 3 hours of credit to be counted in the major may come from undergraduate research  PSYC 4990 , internship PSYC 4960 , and/or independent study PSYC 4950 . This policy does not apply to non-repetitive special topics courses which might carry a PSYC 4950  designation.

Minor and Electives: 27 Hours

There are two options for completing these 27 hours. One option is to choose a minor. Students who plan carefully may take advantage of the minor to designate an area of subspecialty. Consultation with the advisor is important to establish all necessary prerequisites for the minor.

Option I - Minor

The minor is optional for Psychology majors. Students who plan carefully may take advantage of the minor to designate an area of subspecialty.

Minor Concentration: 15-18

Students majoring in psychology may choose to have a minor and should consult with their advisor on this selection, especially in cases where the student wishes the minor to support career goals. Some minors require 15 hours, others require 18 hours. Please see the catalog description for any given minor to determine the requirements.

General Electives: 9-12

General electives may be taken at any level, and may include additional psychology courses. Wellness classes may not count toward the general electives.

Option II - No Minor

If a student chooses the no-minor option, s/he may take more psychology upper level electives or electives from other disciplines as long as they satisfy the requirement of 39 upper level hours. Students may substitute a second major for the minor and/or elective courses. Details on taking a second major are provided elsewhere in the catalog and will likely require 3 additional credits for graduation.

General Electives:

General electives may be taken at any level, and may include additional psychology courses. The student should consult with the advisor to ensure that the electives include at least 6 credit hours of upper division classes in addition to the major. Wellness classes may not count toward the general electives.
