The Bachelor of Fine Arts program is designed to prepare students for professional careers in art. It should be selected by students planning to pursue graduate degrees in sculpture or ceramics.

Portfolio Review

All art majors are required to submit their work for a review by the studio faculty after the completion of the following courses:  ART 1520 , ART 1530 , ART 1211 , and 12 additional hours of studio art courses (21 hours total.) Portfolio Reviews are scheduled during the fall semester. The Portfolio Review must take place the academic year preceding the year of graduation. Passing the Portfolio Review is a prerequisite for ART 4999  and a graduation requirement. If the Portfolio Review is not passed, it must be repeated and passed during the following fall semester. Portfolio Review occurs on the day after the last day of classes of the fall semester.

Transfer students must meet this requirement with the provision that a minimum of three hours be done while in residency at Augusta State Univ. and that the transfer courses for the remaining 18 hrs be equivalent to the required courses listed above.

Each student should submit a minimum of 15 studio works. These are to include both two-dimensional and three-dimensional works. Media variety in works is encouraged in order to aid faculty appraisal of the student’s progress.

The Senior Exhibition

The B.F.A. degree candidate is required to mount an exhibition of artwork. The work for this exhibition must be accepted by the studio art faculty and judged to be of significant quantity and quality to demonstrate the student’s professional abilities. The exhibition is completed in ART 4999  and is a graduation requirement.
