DANA 5001 - General and Oral Microanatomy (6 Credit Hours)
This course provides lectures, laboratory sessions and clinical correlations on the cytology and histology of the cells, tissues and organs of the human body. The cells, tissues and organs of the body are studied at the ultra structural and light microscopic levels. The histology of the primary tissues is presented, and then these tissues are used to build the various organs and organ systems of the body. Particular emphasis is placed on the cephalic portion of the gastrointestinal system where the histology of oral and perioral structures are correlated with clinical dental problems. In addition, the processes of tooth development, eruption and exfoliation are covered in detail.
