Financial Aid

The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) is dedicated to providing guidance and assistance for students to help ease the financial burdens associated with their education.  We strive to assist our students in funding their education while at Georgia Regents University (GRU).

To receive federal and state financial aid, you must meet certain eligibility requirements such as be a U. S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, have Satisfactory Academic Progress, and etcetera.

To apply for federal financial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov and the Georgia Student Financial Aid Application System (GSFAAPS) at www.gacollege411.org for state scholarship and grant programs.

The financial aid application priority deadlines for each term are as follows:  Fall Semester – April 1st; Spring Semester-October 1st; and Summer Semester-March 1st.  Students are expected to submit all required applications and support documents on or before the published financial aid application priority deadlines for the chosen enrollment term.  Failure to meet the priority deadline may result in incurring your own educational expenses until your financial aid file is complete and aid has been processed.

All scholarships awarded by the Georgia Regents University Scholarship and Financial Assistance Committee require an institutional scholarship application which is available on January 1st of each year.  The GRU Academic Scholarship application is accessible through your GRU POUNCE account and will be electronically submitted to the Office of Student Financial Aid.  The application deadline is March 1st.

New Summer Students:  For financial aid purposes, the summer semester is at the end of the award year.  You must complete a FAFSA for both the current academic year and for the next academic year.  Example:  If enrolling at Georgia Regents University during the Summer 2013 semester, you must complete both the 2012-2013 FAFSA (covers Fall 2012, Spring 2013, and Summer 2013) and the 2013-2014 FAFSA (covers Fall 2013, Spring 2014, and Summer 2014).

The OSFA provides education funding from sources such as grants, scholarships, loans, and the federal work-study program.  We encourage you to explore other financial aid opportunities such as external scholarships.  For further information, please refer to our website at www.gru.edu/finaid or email us at finaid@gru.edu.

The OSFA staff will maintain strictly professional relationships with lenders to address servicing issues related to student funding.  We will provide individual Entrance, Exit, and Financial Literacy Counseling upon request.  Please note that counselors cannot choose a lender for you.  Lender selection is solely the decision of the student and should be based on lender comparison and personal need.

Students are encouraged to budget wisely, find ways to decrease student loan debt, and utilize as many resources as possible to ensure a successful educational and financial future.
